“Matilda LeMouton”

by Sue Pendleton of Bluebeary Treasures

Matilda LeMouton is so happy to see spring arrive in the meadow! Sunshine has brought a flower for her to wear in her hair, and her little ladybug friend is catching a ride.

Crochet Matilda with DK or sport weight yarn using a size 1 steel hook (2.35mm). You may alternately use a B hook (2.25mm). She has black plastic safety eyes, and her neck is jointed with a plastic disk set. Her legs are stationary, and she is 9.5” (24cm) tall to the top of her head.

Embroider her nose and mouth with simple straight stitches, and add shading to nose, mouth and cheeks to add a bit of color and character.

The flower and ladybug are crocheted with size 10 thread and a size 7 hook (1.65mm).

Matilda’s “wool” is crocheted in free lps made by crocheting her head, body, tail, and the tops of her legs in the back loops of stitches. Creating the wool is a labor-intensive process, but the result is well worth it. You can make Matilda without the added wool as well.
